Tulbaghia violacea
Tulbaghia violacea (Wild Garlic, Pink Agapanthus, Society Garlic)
is a fully hardy perennial evergreen bulb with pink flowers in early Summer, late Spring, late Summer and mid Summer. It grows well in semi-shade and direct sun, and prefers medium levels of water. The flowers are salverform shaped arranged in a umbelliform cyme inflorescence. It has high drought tolerance. It looks best in Summer.General

Care and maintenance
[edit]This tough plant is easy to grow. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil, but will tolerate poor soils too, although without such great results. Although very drought tolerant, it will not flower well unless given adequate water.

[edit]Traditionally used to treat asthma, fever, colds and tuberculosis.
Ecology
[edit]This plant is often planted as an aphid and snake repellent.
Habitat
[edit]Rocky slopes, grasslands and near rivers.
Soil
Tulbaghia violacea grows in soils ranging from a pH of 6 (acidic ranges from 5.6 to 6) to 8 (slightly alkaline ranges from 7.6 to 8). It is adapted to clay loam, loam, loamy sand, sandy clay loam and sandy loam soils, and prefers medium fertility.
Growth
This is a erect bulb and has a clump forming growth form, and has an ultimate height of 0.5m / 1.5ft and spread of 0.3m / 9.8in. It can take 2-3 years to reach its ultimate height.

It has green leaves.
Exposure
The plant prefers a sheltered situation.
Scent
A strong unpleasant scent is emitted from the leaf. Garlic-scented when bruised.

City courtyard garden, container plant, cottage informal garden, drought resistant, flower border and bed, gravel, culinary herb, garden edging and ground cover.

Propagation techniques include bulbs, division and seed.
